Session Two:
This session for me was far more fast paced than last time - this could be for a few reason, one being that I know the basics and figuratively 'I can walk comfortably in Google' but this work requires me to 'Run like an Olympic Sprinter' so I feel like I am playing catch up but I know with practise and as our time together increases I will feel more confident.
Here is my reflection for this session and then I will be adding in some more notes etc that I took to help me out when referring back to this learning over time.
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
I really liked the emphasis that was placed upon and continued referred back to around effective pedagogy and teaching - this is huge for me and must be embedded naturally into all that we do if we are going to make a difference using analogue or digital approaches - the platform doesn't matter as much as the vehicle delivering the learning.
Without effective teaching we will not have accelerated learning so our staff need to recognise this.
The few slides I screenshot really resonated with me about this whole kaupapa so I saved them in order to reflect upon but also for me to be able to share with our staff as this has been the crux of what I am trying to push at our kura.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
- using calendars more effectively
- bookmarking
- pinning tabs
- Google meets as last lockdown we used Zoom so this could be the tool we use in the future as well all have it
- shortcuts tips again, I am creating a list to share as most of our staff have Apples and any time saver is a blessing
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
How to finally add my personal calendar to my calendars as I can't add for some reason but have worked out how to rename so now my office executive and AP do not need to see when I get my hair done - this will be great for them.
OTHER LEARNING ... AND EMBEDDING :)
As I have said before I am a note taker, even with these cool new tools I will still use pen and paper as that is how I am - helps with my anxiety and OCD so it is more about my head than my capabilities.
The other learning that I felt was beneficial to note down was:
- adding classes in Hāpara as I want to see all students learning and work
- 'Takes 150 times to lose a bad habit'
- That the framework of the house is MK but the inside is MI - empowering us to still do what we value
- Learning and teaching must be intentional
- RATE acronym - learn how to do this in a digital world which is exciting and for some of our staff, this will be a challenge
- asking our staff what are their beliefs around effective teaching - foundation of our mahi
- EFFECTIVE TEACHERS WITH EFFECTIVE PRACTISES IS THE SILVER BULLET
- All google tools are effective and well worth using and learning
- I need to explore Google Keep as this could take me away from my pen and paper habit
Kia Ora Fiona,
ReplyDeleteI commend your attitude to this new learning. Even though you're pushing past your comfort zone, you're finding ways to make it work for you, and enjoying the process.
I'm glad the effective pedagogy as the underpinning factor resonated with you. I look forward to following your journey.
