DFI Week 3 - MEDIA

This week was not as bad as I imagined as I did have some knowledge (more than I thought actually) in the areas we covered.  I did not enjoy google draw as that was incredibly frustrating - I understood the task, the carrying out of it was the challenging part but I did learn that you download these as PNG and that removes the checkered background - so now my charter has a nice white background so that was good learning.

On reflection of today and how it went went:

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

ENGAGEMENT, ENGAGEMENT, ENGAGEMENT - This was awesome as it is what I speak of, to and about often so all of the kōrero around this resonated with me.  The Hook was great too as it is truly all about that.  Also all of the kōrero about create as I am big on that too but I think that my biggest take from that whole session was ...

'ENGAGEMENT THROUGH CREATIVITY AND PURPOSE WILL GAIN THE GREATEST SHIFT IN THEIR STUDENTS' - I  am definitely going to be pushing this kaupapa with my staff.

A few of the slides that I thought were really powerful were as follows:

Dorothy also spoke about Sir Ken and Dr Michael and I have read some of their work on creativity, Welby Ings also speaks about the importance of it so I think it is time we did some more work around this as we all know that kids need CHOICE, KNOWLEDGE and the opportunity to be CREATIVE!

I also really liked this quote ...

CREATIVITY IS AS NATURAL AND NECESSARY FOR CHILDREN AS FRESH AIR AND SUNSHINE!

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Today was challenging for me as I worked closely with Dave to sort out some issues with my set up and he took me to the dark side - instead of having 18 tabs open ordering and organising my life I now can layer my screens and work in between them and the profiles attached - only having the tabs open that are related to that profile.  To be honest I am a control freak with bad OCD as that is linked to my anxiety so I was panicky and things were going wrong but with his support I got through it.  I am now confident to say that I can work within my profiles and find that my tabs are in control lol so that will be something I can share with my colleagues.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Slides and backgrounds was something I found really handy that I know I am really confident in using and if in a classroom I could support my learners.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Merryn showed me how to have two windows open at once and that for me will be a definite time saver as I can have one open working whilst taking notes etc on the other as I am a big note taker.  I am going to try this next week and see if it helps plus I won't be rewriting my thoughts, wonderings and learnings twice as I can write straight onto my blog so let's see and I will update next week.

This week I also created my own photo/image for my blog and a visual pepeha which are posted below.  I enjoyed doing both as find slides really easy to work in so this task allowed me to be more relaxed and take more risks than some we have done in the past.

And my visual pepeha ...
